We require the tests to run whenever a PR is raised or changed and pass before it's merged. PRs are raised infrequently so we need to run the tests on a schedule to ensure that they remain required: https://docs.github.com/en/pull-requests/collaborating-with-pull-requests/collaborating-on-repositories-with-code-quality-features/troubleshooting-required-status-checks
