Disclaimer: I am the author of Stevedore.

Why I think Stevedore is a Good Thing:

  1. Consistent behavior for both desktop and server
  2. MSI installer is a standard Windows distribution that integrates well into various system administration automation processes.
  3. Stevedore provides additional Docker-related tools (Compose, etc) out of the box.
  4. Free and open
  5. Uses upstream binaries
  6. Simple "download, double-click, next-next-next" installation
  7. Has automated install ways (Chocolatey, WinGet, Scoop)

Ping? Stevedore recently gained containerd/buildkit/nerdctl support and seems to be the easiest way to set up those on Windows as of today.
