Vein Finder

A reliable, easy-to-make and open source device!

In the healthcare field, nursing staff frequently encounter difficulties when inserting a peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) into patients. Various factors can make it challenging to establish IV access, such as age, weight, hydration status, and even skin tone of the extremities. Often, a single puncture is unsuccessful, causing patient distress and increasing the risk of infection or trauma.

This is a device that, using LEDs, helps to contrast veins through the skin, making them visible, even those that are not deep, but also not the superficial ones that we observe with the naked eye. This is achieved thanks to hemoglobin, which absorbs the light that attempts to pass through the veins, making them visible.
