##Frequently asked Questions##
###Can I buy a Piccolo kit?###
The Piccolo project has been an ongoing open-source collaboration to design a simple and accessible CNC platform that works well as a kit, and we have been producing small batches of kits for workshops and conferences.
Our aim hasn’t been to commercialise Piccolo by selling kits but we would love to see Piccolo more readily available to anybody who wants one. If you are interested in producing your own Piccolo kits and have any questions about this then please feel free to get in touch. The Piccolo hardware designs are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, and so are freely available for commercial or non-commercial use.
###Why did you change the license for the Piccolo hardware?###
Prior to spreading the word about our Piccolo v1 design, we had released all the Piccolo hardware designs under CC-BY-SA-NC licenses. The reason for choosing the non-commercial creative commons license was to try to provide an incentive to any companies who wanted to distribute Piccolo commercially, to want to work with us under a different license agreement. We had hoped that this would help produce high quality Piccolo kits and maintain the overall quality of the project.
Since announcing Piccolo v1 we received a lot of useful feedback which showed us that a CC-BY-SA-NC licence is not compatible with the Open Source Hardware Definition, and that a compatible license would be much more effective for helping develop the project whilst still providing a lot of opportunity for us to help produce quality kits. We appreciate and agree with the feedback and have re-released all the designs under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license.
We want Piccolo to be truly open-source, and also realise that this is the best way to give Piccolo the brightest future we can!
