@tsteenbe is waiting for a meeting with Mike Dolan (general manager and lawyer from LF) to clarify details.

For sponsorships via LF we can use https://crowdfunding.lfx.linuxfoundation.org, we can use other ways (GitHub sponsors, Patreon, etc.) but ORT TSC would need to setup a bank account.

To apply for LFX Crowdfunding we need to provide below data (copy-paste from the form):

  • Project Name: OSS Review Toolkit

  • Topic/Category: Dependency Management and Software Bill of Materials are existing categories or should we create a new one

  • Elevator Pitch: (Briefly introduce your project)

  • Repository URL: https://github.com/oss-review-toolkit/ort

  • Website: https://oss-review-toolkit.org/

  • Core Infrastructure Initiative: Need to apply for CI project ID at https://www.coreinfrastructure.org/programs/best-practices-program/

  • Code of Conduct URL: Re-use https://www.contributor-covenant.org/?

  • Project Logo: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/oss-review-toolkit/ort/master/logos/ort.png

  • Project Beneficiaries: Name + Email for each core contributor

  • Annual Project Funding: (Provide us with your initial estimated annual project budget. It should be the minimum amount required to ensure that you are able to grow your project effectively. You can update your goal at any time through LFX Crowdfunding and can continue to raise funds even after your initial goal is met.)

  • Fund Distribution: (Allocate your funds accordingly for development, marketing, meetups, bug bounties, travel, documentation, mentorship and other expenses associated with your project. When a specific goal is enabled, its percentage must be greater than zero.)

    • Development Goal (Pay your top developers, and bring in new talent to add features and fix bugs.)
    • Marketing Goal (Promote and grow your project through the development of collateral, a website redesign, or t-shirts to wear at events.)
    • Meetups Goal (Connect with your community through local meetups or at the next big industry event.)
    • Bug Bounty Goal (Have your community help identify bugs, and get rewarded, through a bug bounty program.)
    • Travel Goal (Send project members to conferences, meetups, or customer meetings.)
    • Documentation Goal (Raise the bar by driving specific documentation initiatives within your project.)

LFX Crowdfunding decisions to be made by ORT TSC:

Do we want to apply to LFX Crowdfunding?
If yes, then:
A. In which category do we want to be listed? Dependency Management or ...?
B. What is our elevator pitch?
C. Do we want to apply for a CII badge?
D. What to have a Code Of Conduct? If yes, then I propose we rais a seperate ort-governance ticket for this
E. What is our initial estimated annual project budget?
F. How would we distribute any raised funds?

On June 20, 2022 TSC made the decision not to use LFX crowdfunding but first use Fiscal Hosts see related #14
