Nginx container with localhost as upstream not working with OrbStack

I just found OrbStack by reading a newsletter from [email protected] so I wanted to give it a try.
I have an issue with an nginx container. You have below the docker-compose.yaml, nginx.conf and hosts I'm using.

When I tried to open the website at http://orga.dev.pix.fr, I keep getting a 502 Bad Gateway with this message in the container logs

2023/03/31 07:24:02 [error] 28#28: *1 connect() failed (111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream, client: 172.19.0.1, server: orga.dev.pix.fr, request: "GET / HTTP/1.1", upstream: "http://172.17.0.1:4201/", host: "orga.dev.pix.fr"

It's working with Docker Desktop, but not working with OrbStack. Any idea why ?

Thanks for the example setup. I'll see if I can reproduce this, but in the meantime can you try removing this section from docker-compose.yml?

    extra_hosts:
      - 'host.docker.internal:host-gateway'

Your logs show that host.docker.internal is resolving to 172.17.0.1, which is the IP of the Docker VM, not the macOS host. It looks like the host-gateway trick is for Linux hosts and is not necessary for Docker on Mac, so removing it should make host.docker.internal resolve to the correct IP. Let me know whether it works.

I tried without the extra_hosts and it is working as expected.

Great. This has also been fixed in v0.6.0, so there's no need to remove extra_hosts anymore.

Fixed for the next version, thanks for reporting.

In the meantime you can get it working by removing the extra host as I suggested above. It's not needed on macOS.
