Dear radioactiveman, cheers for your magnificent feat!!!
foobar2000, although an excellent music player, is only available in English officially, and the officials refuse to add other regional languages, making it somewhat challenging for non-native English speakers to use. Therefore, I had to seek an open-source application as my primary music player until I encountered Audacious!
Audacious is a fantastic invention. Since I discovered it, I have abandoned other music players. Its simple and elegant interface has won my heart! Although it is not yet perfect, I believe that given some time, it will surely polish into the best among cross-platform players!!!
For me, portableapps is just a substitute, and I still hope the official version can enhance portability, as only the official ones are the most reliable. Updates on portableapps are not always timely. Once there are new changes, some of its data will become invalid, and it takes a long time for new developers to fix it.
I really hope that in the future development of Audacious, several details can be improved. One of them is the aforementioned portability, and another is to add an option for adaptive column width in the playlist interface.
If I embed images and lyrics windows on both sides of the main interface, along with the playlist manager, the set columns on the right side of the playlist will be obscured by the right sidebar instead of each column automatically folding a part, which is not aesthetically pleasing.
Next is the improvement of the lyrics plugin. The lyrics plugin is quite outdated; it can only display lyrics text. I hope to add features such as lyrics scrolling effects and the ability to read built-in lyrics files and external .srt format lyrics files. I think the lyrics scrolling effect can be easily implemented, but I'm not sure about reading built-in lyrics files as I have no programming knowledge. Please don't mind if I say something wrong.
The reason for needing built-in lyrics format files is that I currently use Matroska to encapsulate my songs. It's an excellent encapsulation standard that supports packaging various files together with audio, and its encapsulation performance is comparable to the FLAC encoding format. A WAV format encapsulated in MKA can achieve the same file size as FLAC, eliminating the need to convert WAV to FLAC for storage.
While using it, I suddenly wondered if, like video players that can read subtitle files encapsulated with videos, improving certain functions of music players could also support reading built-in .lrc or .srt lyrics files like video players. I think this is an interesting attempt, but there are no programmers around me, and I only joined a foobar2000 enthusiast community. I posted this suggestion in the community, but almost no one discussed it, which made me quite disappointed.
I'm not a fanatic music lover; I'm just an ordinary user who hopes Audacious will continue to improve.
Finally, cheers again to you and other Audacious developers, wishing you all the best in the future!!!
