The file on https://msedgedriver.azureedge.net/LATEST_STABLE reports the latest STABLE version as 129.0.2751.0, when per the official website https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/webdriver/?form=MA13LH it is 127.0.2651.86

This leads to failures in our web driver updates, since expected version is to high.

Seems like this was fixed intermittently by a new patch version. But very disconcerting that something like this went unnoticed and unrecognized from the Edge Team for over a week ... how can we ensure that this does not happen again?

Same problem still, Edge is now up to 130. If they are going to do this, why bother.
