Keeping a check on the density of a grid

In the current implementation, addition of nodes to a grid is terminated once the number of nodes in a grid reaches a fixed value. Whether this serves the purpose, or whether we should remove existing nodes from a grid (which nodes?) and add new once upon saturation, is yet to be decided.
