Rivers are positioned between Tiles.

River MPS : 4MPs, 6MPs in severe weather

*Crossing a River consumes MPs only when invading a nation, i.e. moving over enemy lands. Movement over a river and into a friendly controlled co-ordinate (either your own, or one belonging to a country with -right of passage- or -alliance- relation) does not cost any extra MPs.

The number of pioneer battalions in your army decreases the extra cost for crossing a river. For every 8 battalions of pioneers in an army, deduct 1 mp penalty. Therefore, an army with 32 battalions of pioneers may move over rivers without extra cost in normal weather conditions. If an army with 32 pioneer battalions try to cross a river during severe weather (+6 mps penalty), then it would actually need +2 mps.
(penalty = +6, pioneer bonus = -4, net result = +2).

To be eligible to provide the above bonus, each pioneer battalion must have 400+ headcount. Battalions with less than 400 men do not count for the bonus.
